(Sacramento, Calif.) Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed the Pacific Institute’s Gary Wolff to the State Water Resources Control Board yesterday. In his five years with the Institute, Wolff has served as program director, principal economist, and engineer. The Board position requires Senate confirmation.

“This appointment is an honor,” said Wolff, a Castro Valley resident. “I'm looking forward to working with the Governor, State and Regional Board members, staff, and stakeholders to create solutions for California’s water problems.”

While with the Institute, Wolff authored and co-authored numerous reports. His most recent publication, Beyond Privatization, analyzed the practices of highly efficient water utilities, whether public or private. In Waste Not, Want Not, Wolff and coauthors examined the cost savings and efficiency potential of water conservation in California, including important co-benefits such as energy savings from hot water conservation. Wolff identified the economic keys to success for integrating water resources management in Economies of Scale and Scope in River Basin Management. Through his work at the Pacific Institute, Wolff advanced understanding of the economic dimension of water management.

The Pacific Institute is dedicated to protecting the natural world, encouraging sustainable development, and improving global security. Founded in 1987 and based in downtown Oakland, the Institute provides independent research and policy analysis on issues at the intersection of development, environment, and security.
