Pacific Institute Email Update for July 2002

July 23: Gleick Launches "World's Water" in DC
Speech to Woodrow Wilson Center Introduces New Book

What are the most pressing threats to our planet's freshwater? Can a "soft path" for water provide solutions? How does globalization and privatization impact the effort to protect and share the world's water? Peter Gleick, President of the Pacific Institute, will discuss these topics at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC on July 23, 2002 to mark the launch of "The World's Water 2002-2003: The Biennial Report on Freshwater Resources" (Island Press, July 23, 2002). The new book focuses on the global water crisis and possible solutions while also looking at the growing controversy over water privatization and other issues.

More information on the book launch is available online.
