The CEO Water Mandate: Guide to Responsible Business Engagement with Water Policy

Overview

Access to water is an important strategic concern for many companies, and increased threats to the supply, quality, and reliability of global water resources create substantial pressure for businesses to improve the way they manage water risk. The framework described in this report provides a way for companies to address risk by engaging with policy that integrates environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and socially equitable water management approaches. It broadens the understanding of corporate engagement from policy advocacy and lobbying to a consideration of public partnerships, with the objective of responsible corporate management of water resources within operations and supply chains.

The Pacific Institute is co-secretariat of the United Nations Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate, which mobilizes business leaders to advance water stewardship, sanitation, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
